Autism Nova Scotia and Dalhousie’s Dr. Karen Foster are working together to research the housing needs and desires of Autistics and people with Autism in Nova Scotia.
This survey is open to anyone with Autism who lives in Nova Scotia and is at least 16 years old. Caregivers and support networks are also welcome to complete the survey on behalf of someone on the Autism Spectrum.
There are 3 ways you can take the survey:
Option 1: Online
Option 2: By Phone - A researcher who will call you and ask you the questions
Option 3: By Written Copy - We can either mail you the paper copy or you can pick up the paper survey in-person at any Autism Nova Scotia office across the province
There's approximately 60 questions to the survey, but most people will only have to answer a selection of those based on their answers. Some of the questions are multiple-choice and some of the questions allow you to write as much as you want.
The survey should take about 20-60 minutes to fill out. There is no time limit to complete it.
After completing the survey, you will be asked to provide your email address to be entered into a draw for one of five $100 Sobeys gift cards.*
The survey will be available until May 20th, 2021.

A. This research looks at the housing needs and desires of people with Autism in Nova Scotia.
We want to help Autism service providers and government understand the range of housing needs and wants among Autistics and people with Autism, so that they can better plan housing development and supports.
This survey is designed to ask questions about your experiences with housing so far, where and how you want to live in the future, and what challenges you see in the way of what you want.
A. We have several options of supports available to help you complete this survey:

A. The research will help create a better understanding of the views, experiences, challenges, and hopes people on the autism spectrum have about housing and supports.
Your survey responses can be an opportunity to reflect on and make sense of your experiences, and to figure out what kinds of housing options are right for you.
This is also a chance to contribute to the knowledge of experts, government employees and service providers who work in the Nova Scotia housing environment.
You will also have the option to be entered in a draw for one of five $100 Sobeys gift cards. The draw will take place when the research is complete, some time in Spring 2021.
